DELTA STATE POLYTECHNIC OZORO – STUDENT PEACEFUL PROTEST 2020

Earlier today, the Students Union Government led by Comr. Gabriel Udemude led a peaceful protest to press home the demands of the students of our dear institution, Delta State Polytechnic Ozoro.

The protest which started in the early hour of today was recorded as the most peaceful protest in the history of the institution.

Addressing the students during the protest, the President urged the students not to hijack the opportunity to destroy properties or cause any violence.

Songs of struggle were all on the lips of the students while maintaining that the need for the protest remains paramount having utilized all the available avenues to achieve their demand.

The presence of the men of the Nigeria Police Force and other security operative was witnessed as the mount in order to achieve a peaceful protest.

Later in the day, the protest witness the arrival of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Committee (NANS JCC) Delta State Axis and his team and this gave birth to a congress meeting of the all parties.

Speaking during the congress with some representatives of the management including Dr. Bassey Ekanem, the PRO of the Institution, Dean Students Affairs Comr. Thomas Ojuye, former Dean Students Affairs Mr. Ighoroje, Mr. Mordi who is the Students Affairs Officer, the CSO and a host of others, the PRO commended the maturity of the students in carrying out such a huge protest while suggesting that a message has actually been passed.

The President who enumerated the prayers of the students which includes
• The lift of ban on the entry of vehicles & bike into the campus
• increment of the Continuous Assessment (CA) from 20 to 30 marks
• Poor Practicals for students
• Poor Medical Facilities

Another students leader, Bon Okafor also known as the Chief Priest added that the management should as a matter of fact look into the issue of the use of face caps saying that the effect on some is better imagined than experienced.

Others who contributed are Comr. Charles Igbafa President of the Computer Science Department on the need for Practicals for CIT students, Comr. Goodnews, President of SLT who raised issues about the timetable schedule of the SLT Department and others.

The Dean of Students assures that the grievances have been recorded and the management will be notified of all of them, this is even as he states that the Governing Council was the body that will decide the fate on the issue of vehicular movement within the campus.
